Tschüs!

Things I Lost That I Love is coming to a close. In short, mocking my shortcomings here seems to be more destructive than constructive. But thank you for following along to this point, dear readership!

Glove

What I lost: One American Apparel eggplant-colored mohair fingerless glove

When: New Year's Eve, maybe?

Location: I don't know.

Last seen: Still don't know. When I was wearing it, dammit. I know I probably last put it into a pocket of my jacket because that's where I happened to find the other one.

Losses: $6 before tax; the comfort of a miniature insulation device

How I can prevent this loss in the future: Don't put important things without cords in coat pockets. Ding dong.

LG Rumor 2

What I lost: LG Rumor 2 cell phone

When: about 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 11

Location: La Brea and Wilshire

Last seen: On the 217 bus before I transferred buses. Either I accidentally put it on a seat next to my purse or it was in my lap and dropped when I departed the bus. I couldn't hear any potential clattering thanks to my noise-isolating earphones. They're totally a blessing and a curse.

Losses: $89.99 retail, a big chunk of my December earnings to get another phone

How I can prevent this loss in the future: Put my phone away in a safe place in my purse FAST after I use it. I have a constant problem with not completely finishing an action before I move onto another. Also, do a quick visual sweep after I get up from my seat. Consider only have one earphone in more often when out in public and in transit.

Latte

What I lost: Starbucks grande skinny latte

When: about 4:05

Location: Starbucks in Little Tokyo

Last seen: I never saw it, actually. I ordered a latte for myself and my coworker back at the office. After mine was put on the bar, I immediately left Starbucks because I completely forgot about the other one until I was reminded back at the factory.

Losses: $3.45, some dignity in the office

How I can prevent this loss in the future: grab a cardboard 4-drink container, or keep something in my hand (list, receipt, etc) to remember that there's more than one order. I'm actually surprised now that this is the first time this has happened.

Nutella

What I lost: Single serving of Nutella

When: about 11:35

Location: Kachi Café on Wilshire

Last seen: After the guy handed it to me at the cash register and I tried to tuck it away in my purse but clearly failed. I got distracted by the cost of the Nutella itself and at that point it might have fallen on the floor. That's nice.

Losses: something around a dollar, but most importantly, my plain wheat toast remains plain wheat toast

How I can prevent this loss in the future: 100% confirm something is safely in my purse before I carry on, which I've already talked about before on this blog of perennial sorrow

Straw

How did I lose my straw?! I don't even want to consider drinking this Coffee Bean iced coffee with soy without it. I'll have to ask someone selling horchatas here [ETA: some sort of punch, actually] for one. Una paja. Oh, Google Translate changed.

Yogurt Parfait

What I lost: custom Coffee Bean yogurt parfait (strawberries, blueberries, honey, granola, yogurt)

When: about 9:20

Last seen: after the guy handed me it in a bag, I set about customizing my latte and then forgot about the poor parfait, so I assume I left it on the bar

Location: 7th & Flower Coffee Bean

Losses: $3.95, delicious breakfast

How I can prevent this loss in the future: Umm, assess my surroundings before I walk away and don't put something out of my eyesight. Poor parfait. I called and someone had taken it and it's probably in their stomach by now.
